Twisted Pizza Sticks

These pizza sticks are the best thing since sliced bread!

Pizza sticks make great party food, especially for kids parties. You can make these in large quantities and serve them to your guests as snacks or appetizers. Or just instead of bread- add a twist to the regular sliced bread.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough:
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp flax seeds (optional)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

pan or oil

1 Tbsp butter
1tsp coarse salt
Parmesan cheese
garlic powder
dried oregano

Start with my favorite pizza dough recipe. Split the dough in 6 parts and roll them out into sticks like on the picture below. Preheat the over to 450F at this point.
Wrap them around skewers for grilling kebabs. Oil the pan and place pizza stick skewers on it.
Melt butter in a separate dish.
Use a brush to spread it over the pizza sticks.
They should look shiny like this.
Sprinkle salt, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese and oregano on top.
Bake at 450F for about 15 minutes.
Serve with marinara dip on the side (maybe not such a great idea if you are making those for kids party).

Flatbread Pizza with Artichoke Hearts

Here is a simple idea for easy to make party food- flat bread pizza! It is very night, not loaded with cheese and sauce. It looks pretty- everyone will ask you how you made it.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough:
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp flax seeds
1 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

Toppings:
1/8 cup olive oil
3 garlic cloves
t tsp oregano
salt 1 tsp salt
3 tbsp crumbled feta cheese
5 slices of ham
5 baby portobello mushrooms
5-6 pieces marinated artichoke hearts
1-2 tomatoes, sliced
grated Parmesan cheese

Roll out the pizza dough and place it on the parchment paper, or in the pregreased pan.

Mix oil, garlic, salt and oregano in a cut and allow it to infuse for some times. I usually prepare this while the dough is getting ready. Spread it over the dough as a base layer. You can also use butter instead of olive oil.

At this point, preheat the oven on 450F.

Then place all the toppings in order.

Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Then you can brush more olive oil on the crust and sprinkle some Parmesan over the top.

Rolled Pizza

Here is another rolled pizza recipe. This one is the real one though. I can finally admit publicly that the Python Pizza was supposed to look like this, but since the dough was rolled too thin and we put way too many toppings, it looked like a fat python instead, hence the name.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough:
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

Toppings:
1 can of tomato paste mixed with the same amount of water
5-6 large olives, sliced
5-6 mushrooms, sliced or chopped
4-5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 Tbsp oregano

oil or margarine for greasing the pan

The pizza dough is again make in my little bread maker. This measure it enough for about 4 people.

Stretch the dough with a rolling pin to about 1/4 in thick.

Mix tomato paste with about the same quantity of water. Spread 1/2 of this mixture on the pizza dough. Then add mushrooms and olives.

Cover with mozzarella.

Now here is the main part- roll the pizza.

Carefully cut slices.

Arrange rolled pizza slices in the greased pan.

Add the rest of the tomato paste water mix and more mozzarella on top. Bake at 450F for about 15 minutes or until the cheese starts turning brown.

Rolled Pizza aka Python Pizza

Why would one want to roll a pizza? Why not? If you like to eat pizza often and need some change/ excitement in life, try this. It's fun, and it will give your friends the opportunity to make all sort of jokes about your pizza.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough:
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

Toppings:
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups tomato sauce or ketchup mixed in water
1 cup ham, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1/4 cup olives, chopped
1/4 cup jalapeños, chopped
4-5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 Tbsp oregano

oil or margarine for greasing the pan

As always, I made the dough in my bread maker. It's easy and it makes a great pizza dough. This measure makes either 2 thin crust 12" pizzas, or one deep dish. It is enough for 4 people.

Stretch the dough with a rolling pin to the thickness of a thin crust pizza, or however you like it. The shape doesn't really matter since you are going to roll it anyways.

Spread sour cream over the dough first. If it is too thick, add a little bit of milk and water to it and mix.

Next is tomato sauce or ketchup.

Then add your toppings: ham, tomatoes, etc.

This pictures shows oregano form my garden that I dried and use on pizzas. Oregano is so easy to grow, actually once you plant it you will never be able to get rid of it. It spreads like crazy. But it is quite useful as it gives a nice touch to many dishes.

Then add olives, and hot peppers and whatever else you'd like.

Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Then roll. This will not be easy, so make sure the dough is not stuck to the counter top surface.

Once the pizza is rolled, you will need the help of your friends to transfer it into the baking dish and then, they will let you have it. Nicknames such as a mummy and python pizza were heard. There was even a concern about not being sure who would eat whom. At this point, an interesting conversation was triggered, about a woman who died of a tumor in 1950's and the cells of her tumor are still alive, multiplying, and so far have larger mass that she did when she was alive.

Anyways, the python pizza made it to the baking dish. Total of 6 hands, 2 spatulas, 1 cutting board, and one sharp knife were needed to make this happen.

Decorate the pizza with a little bit of tomato sauce and cheese.

Bake at 450F for about 15-20 minutes.

Acknowledgements:
I would like to thank my friends Sale and Filip for their support and insightful comments during this pizza making. Thank you Sale for your awesome sour cream and ketchup spreading abilities, and Filip for slaying the python pizza at the end.

Caramelized Onion and Mushroom Pizza

This is an interesting pizza that does not have tomato sauce. Try it, it's very good!

Ingredients:

Pizza dough:
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

Toppings:
2 yellow onions, sliced thin
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 pack mushrooms, sliced
5 Tbsp goat cheese
1/2 young mozzarella cheese in water
1 Tbsp oregano
1 tbs basil
1 tbs thyme
salt, pepper
oil

I make my pizza dough in my bread maker, but you can also do it by hand. This recipe is quite good, I would not change it. It measures makes dough for two 12" thin crust pizzas. I usually make 2 different pizzas, so the toppings are enough just for one pizza pie.

Grease the pizza pan with oil or margarine. Stretch the pizza dough into the pizza pan (use 1/2 of the dough, if you used my recipe). Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan. Add minced garlic and sliced mushrooms. Cook while stirring occasionally. Mushrooms will release water, but continue cooking until all of that water is evaporated (about 15 minutes). They will also reduce in size.

Add salt and pepper to taste and stir. When the mushroom are done, transfer them into a bowl and set aside.

Add more oil in the frying pan and add onions. Sprinkle some salt and stir. Cook for about 20 minutes until all the onions are brown in color.

Spread goat cheese onto the pizza dough first.

Then evenly distribute mozzarella slices.

Do the same with onions and mushrooms.

Sprinkle oregano, basil and thyme over the pizza.

Bake at 500F for 15 minutes, until it is almost done.

Then take the pizza out, sprinkle grated parmesan cheese and place back in the oven for a couple of more minutes.

Mushroom, Canadian bacon and tomato pizza

Ingredients:

pizza dough

margarine

mushrooms

canadian bacon

tomatoes
fresh mozzarella cheese

shredded cheese mix
oregano

Grease the pizza pan with margarine. Stretch the dough onto the pizza pan making the edges slightly thicker. Then grease the top of the pizza dough with margarine again so that the tomato sauce doesn't make it soggy. Make sure you cover the edges well, this will keep them moist during baking.

Cut up one or two medium tomatoes in a bowl and and then crush them with a fork. Add one can of tomato paste to this and mix. Cover the pizza dough with this sauce.

Slice the mushrooms and arrange over pizza.

Then cut up canadian bacon in small pieces and spread them on top.

Slice the tomatoes thin and arrange on top. Finally, place slices of fresh mozzarella cheese to cover all the toppings.

Garnish with shredded cheese and oregano. Remember- there is no such thing as too much cheese on a pizza!

Bake on 425F for 15-20 minutes. When the edges start to get golden brow
n, your pizza is done.

I use bread maker to make the pizza dough. It works great- just pour all the ingredients in and push start. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, I have a perfect pizza dough.

This bread maker makes much more than just a pizza dough. The bread possibilities are endless, as well as other pastries. It also makes jam, so you have something to eat with your bread! It is programmable, so you can set it in the evening and wake up with a nice smell of fresh bread in the morning. The loaf size is 1lb (most other bread machines make 2 lbs bread loaves), so its perfect size to consume in a day or two and then make a fresh loaf again.
